The School of Education prepares undergraduate and graduate students for professional careers in education, organizations, and agencies in the diverse American society. We understand that teaching is not just the performance of various learned strategies and methods but also a reflective process of observation, deliberation and assessment throughout one’s career. The true essence of education then, is that it must be responsive to the culture, class, gender and strengths, needs, experiences, and interests of the individual.
Accredited by the prestigious National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) since 1974, we are constantly developing program and course offerings through self-study, strategic planning, and cooperative work with our various constituencies, including public school personnel and our colleagues in liberal arts and sciences.
