Convenient Course Formats

Need to take courses during the weekend and on alternate evenings?

We offer an alternative to the traditional class meeting schedule.

All alternate courses (weekend, eight-week alternate, distance, and accelerated) are designed for students who prefer more independent study.  There is a GPA requirement to register for these courses.  For more information about alternate format courses, please contact your academic advisor or the College of Continuing Studies,
609-896-5033 or ccs@rider.edu

  • Accelerated Courses:  Courses meet for 4 hours once a week for 8 consecutive weeks.

  • Distance Learning Courses:  Courses are offered online via Blackboard.  Some online courses require one or more in-class meetings.  Please check the web, for information regarding in-class meetings beginning mid December.

  • Eight-week Alternate Evening Courses: Eight-week evening courses meet for 3 hours once a week eight times during the semester.  Typically courses meet every other weeknight. (see calendar)

  • Weekend Courses:  Weekend courses meet for 3 hours once a week eight times during the semester.  Typically courses meet every other weekend. (see calendar)

If you are enrolled in an alternate format course, you must obtain the syllabus and information sheet. Most courses have an assignment or reading due for the first class meeting.  Be prepared for class!

ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS FOR CCS ALTERNATE FORMAT COURSES
Both the CCS staff and the faculty who teach CCS alternate format courses have specific expectations of our students who enroll in any CCS alternate format course.  We want you to be aware of those expectations before the spring semester gets underway.

  • ATTENDANCE IS MANADATORY.
Please check the alternate format course calendars on the CCS web page – www.rider.edu/ccs, then select Alternate Format Courses.
If you find that you are not able to attend all class meeting dates for your particular course, you should change your schedule and select another course that you can attend.
If there is an emergency situation that causes you to be absent during the semester, you must notify your faculty immediately or as soon as possible using your Rider e-mail address.  You are also expected to be on time for every class
  • PRINT AND READ THE COURSE SYLLABUS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE SEMESTER (January 21, 2008).
Most alternate format courses have a reading and/or assignment due for the first day of class.  You must be prepared for your first class meeting.
Print and read your syllabus from the CCS web page – www.rider.edu/ccs, then select Alternate Format Courses.
The faculty contact information is on the syllabus as well as the Alternate Format Courses web page.
  • MAKE-UP OR REVIEW SESSION.
Plan to attend the make-up/review session.  The make-up/review session is used at faculty discretion.

If you have any questions or concerns about the expectations for alternate format courses, please contact CCS or your academic advisor at 609-896-5033.  We wish you a successful spring semester!
