| My laboratory has been studying proteases, protease inhibitors and cancer. Our focus most recently has been examining the effect of protease inhibitors, particularly alpha1-antitrypsin (alpha1-AT) on breast and brain tumor cells. We have observed suppression of growth factor release and growth in soft agarin both breast and brain tumor cell lines. This suggests alpha1-AT may be acting as atumor suppressor. Identification and characterization of the membrane proteasesuggests it is an elastase-like membrane protease. I coordinate activites of our Rider University Science Advisory Board. Representatives from academic institutions and corporations such as, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Merck, FMC, Wyeth-Ayerst, Besselaar, Johnson and Johnson, Janssen, American Cyanamid, Princeton University and The Institute for Advanced Study provide our science programs with advise and opportunities for collaboration and cooperation. | |
