School Psychology

You have arrived at the web site to one of the finest School Psychology programs in the region. Since 1979, Rider's program has served the area through its preparation of highly skilled school psychologists.  Offering a blend of traditional training that stands at the core of school psychology practice as well as approaches that are currently at the forefront of professional practice, the Rider University program uniquely prepares graduates for professional practice.  As a result, Rider graduates are actively recruited by employers. In recent years, most have been employed before or very shortly after completion of the degree.

Rider University's School Psychology Program is fully approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).  The program prepares prospective students to become certified School Psychologists at the state and national level. The program offers an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree consisting of 66 graduate credits. The Ed.S. is often conceptualized as a degree that is in between a Master and doctorate.

The program may be completed in three years of full-time study, with approximately 85% of the students enrolled on a full-time basis. Selected undergraduate institutions represented in the program include the College of William & Mary, Johns Hopkins University, University of Scranton, University of Richmond, Gettysburg University, the College of New Jersey, Temple University, the University of Georgia, the Pennsylvania State University, Rutgers University, and Rider University.

The program is approved by the state of New Jersey and graduates will meet certification requirements in other U.S. states, including Pennsylvania and New York.
