Behavioral Neuroscience Major Requirements

The Behavioral Neuroscience major requirements are designed to give students a broad spectrum of classroom and laboratory experiences in brain-behavior relationships.  Cognate requirements include 1 year of Chemistry and 1 semester of Mathematics.  Behavioral Neuroscience majors take 51-54 credits (depending on the courses selected) and earn a B.S. degree.

PSY 100 Introduction to Psychology 3

BIO 115 Principles of Biology: Evolution, Diversity, and Biology of Animals (with lab) 4
BIO 117 Principles of Biology: Evolution, Diversity, and Biology Cells (with lab) 4
BNS 118 Behavioral Neuroscience (with lab) 4
BNS 415 Seminar in Behavioral Neuroscience 3
CHE 120 Principles of Chemistry 3
CHE 121 Principles of Chemistry Lab 1

CHE 122 Introduction to Chemical Systems

CHE 123 Quantitative Methods Lab 1

MTH 105 Algebra and Trigonometry

BNS 310 Neurobiology (with lab) 4
BNS 360 Neurochemistry (with lab) 4

At least two of the following biology/psychology courses Credits (6-8)

BIO 265 or higher course with a lab

PSY 200 or higher (e.g., Sensation & Perception, Abnormal Psychology, Learning & Memory, etc)

Important Notes

  • If a student receives a grade lower than C in any prerequisite course, they must repeat it before enrolling in any biology or behavioral neuroscience course for which it is a prerequisite.
