Biology & Behavioral Neuroscience
Do you see yourself practicing medicine, pursuing your M.S. or Ph.D. degrees, teaching high school students, working in the pharmaceutical industry? Do you see yourself combining your talents in biology and psychology to conduct cutting-edge research or practice medicine?
The Biology and Behavioral Neuroscience majors are designed to help students develop the skills needed to cope successfully with today's changing society. Our students increase their factual knowledge and learn how to apply their knowledge to investigate biological problems. Training in experimental design, data analysis, writing and computer skills are an integral part of the biology curriculum.
The Biology and Behavioral Neuroscience programs at Rider are designed to prepare graduates for technical positions, or entrance into post-graduate schools. Areas of post-graduate study include: medicine (leading to the M.D. or D.O. degree); other health sciences (optometry, podiatry, physical therapy, etc.); or graduate school programs leading to the M.S. or Ph.D. degrees in any of the subdisciplines of the biological sciences. We also prepare students for careers in secondary school education, and the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Co-curricular links with the Rider College of Business Administration can prepare students for careers in marketing and business administration.
In addition to the Biology and Behavioral Neuroscience majors, the Department coordinates the pre-med and pre-allied health programs. The Department co-sponsors the Biochemistry major (with the Department of Chemistry) and the Marine Science and Environmental Science majors (with the Department of Geological and Marine Sciences). Students may have the option to minor in these or other fields.
