Adriano Duque is an Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. He received his Ph.D. in Romance Languages from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Duque's research includes postcolonial readings of Christian, Muslim and Jewish relations in Medieval Spain and Syria, and analyses of the influence of the Syrian Christian legacy in Medieval Spain.  Recent work has dealt with the relation between the epic prayer and Gothic church portals, the cartographic dimension of Benedict the Pole's account of the 1237 expedition to Mongolia, or the Semiotics of Medieval Insult. His current research focuses on the construction of Christian orthodoxy in 10th century Córdoba.  Dr. Duque has been the recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts grants to study the representation of Jews in the Middle Ages.
