Leased and operated by the Natural Resource Education Foundation of New Jersey (a consortium of various educational and environmental organizations), the Lighthouse Education Center (LEC) is located in Waretown, Ocean County, New Jersey, on the western shore of Barnegat Bay. Camp facilities include a dining hall, main lodge, classroom, computer and marine laboratories, cabins, boat dock, canal, and boathouse (see picture). A variety of terrestrial and marine environments are accessible directly from the LEC, while the barrier beach environments of coastal New Jersey, including Long Beach Island, are located just minutes away and accessible either by car or boat.

Marine Academy of Science and Technology (MAST)

GEMS has formalized an articulation agreement with the New Jersey Marine Academy of Science and Technology (MAST) of the Monmouth County (New Jersey) Vocational School District. The articualtion agreement allows Rider students complete access to the state-of- the-art facilities of this prestigious magnet high school, located at Fort Hancock on Sandy Hook, New Jersey. MAST owns and operates the 65' RV Blue Sea, a fully-functional research vessel, that can accomodate more than 30 students on board for marine and oceanographic instruction and research. Additional MAST facilities include a NOAA laboratory with ambient light and seawater temperature controls for variable size flow-through tanks. This laboratroy allows students and researchers to simulate environmental conditions at just about any latitude or time of year. Rider faculty and students currently are conducting experiments on hardshell clams at the laboratory in cooperation with MAST marine biologists. While working at MAST, Rider faculty and students often collaborate with, and mentor, MAST students.
