Business and Marketing Education (B.S.)

Business Education prepares teachers to teach for and about business.    Rider's Business Education program contributes to: 

 
• The education of individuals to lead and contribute to a business community that is ethical, diverse, inclusive, prosperous, and responsible;
• The advancement of business education at all educational levels;  and
• The development of business educators who embrace high ethical standards and personal and professional excellence to ensure that students and adults are afforded equal opportunity to fundamental business knowledge and skills and, therefore, equal opportunity to success in life.

 The Business Education program prepares prospective business educators to:


• Encourage, represent, and strive to embody the highest ideals and values, achievements, and aspirations of business educators at all levels.
• Advocate business education as a promising field for our best and brightest teaching candidates.
• Promote business education programs in higher education which are dedicated to preparing future generations of business educators.
• Stimulate and provide opportunities for the ongoing, professional education and advancement of the nation’s business teachers.
• Work collaboratively with government, community, business, and educational leaders at the national, state, and local levels to achieve universal acknowledgment that business knowledge is vital to the success of every individual and, therefore, is an essential component in all students, education.
• Develop compelling, innovative programs that engage people in the advancement of the business curriculum.
• Promote an understanding of the vital role business education plays in the success of American business and the world economy.


Rider University students successfully completing the business education requirements will be comprehensively certified to teach the following:


Accounting, banking and insurance, business computer applications, business law, business communications, business mathematics, economics and finance, entrepreneurship; international business; keyboarding; business management; business organization, marketing; office administration/office systems technology; and exploration in business related careers.

In the accounting area students will be able to teach accounting, bookkeeping, finance and investment, business mathematics and exploration of related careers.

In the area of finance/economics/law students will be able to teach finance and investment, economics, law, banking and insurance, business mathematics, business communications; business management, business organization and exploration of related careers.

In the keyboarding and data entry area students may teach keyboarding, computer data entry, word processing and exploration of related careers.

In the area of computer applications and business-related information technology, students will be able to teach business-related software applications, safety and security policies pertaining to computer use, emerging hardware and operating systems, file management, legal issues related to computer use, and exploration of related business occupations.

In the office administration/office systems technology area, students will be able to teach office organization, word processing, speed writing, business communication, office and administrative support practices and procedures, keyboarding, data entry and exploration of related business occupations.

In the marketing education area, students will be able to teach marketing occupations including sales, advertising and retailing, global marketing, entrepreneurship and exploration of related business occupations.

Job prospects for business educators are excellent.
