Organizers have announced a revised schedule for Stoking the Sustainability Fire: Expanding Vision, Leading Change, a comprehensive environmental conservation conference. All events will now take place on Friday, June 5, on Rider University’s Lawrenceville campus, 2083 Lawrenceville Road.
“Rider is excited to host this endeavor, which will serve as a catalyst for community members to continue the conversation about sustainability,” said Jonathan Yavelow, assistant dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Education, and Sciences at Rider University. “We urge all members of the local community to attend.”
The daylong conference will focus on Sustainable Jersey, the municipal certification program developed by the League of Municipalities in conjunction with the New Jersey State Sustainability Institute at Rutgers and the Municipal Land Use Center at The College of New Jersey. CEU credits will also be available, and lunch will be included.
“Sessions on Waste Management and Recycling in Your Schools, Construction and Demolition Debris Recycling, and new green jobs in this field are especially relevant to municipal employees,” Yavelow said. “However, anyone interested in reducing waste in their business, school or organization will benefit from these informative programs.”
The Sustainability Slam in the evening promises to be both fun and educational with live music, refreshments and food. During the event, participants are encouraged to network and share their visions and concerns during a casual, conversational setting.
In addition to Rider University, the impressive list of sponsoring organizations include GreenFaith, Sustainable Lawrence, Isles, Inc., The Municipal Land Use Center at The College of New Jersey, Honey Brook Organic Farm, D&R Greenway Land Trust, Terhune Orchards, New Jersey Future, Unitarian Universalist Church of Washington Crossing Green Committee, PlanSmart NJ and the Historical Society of Princeton.
Stoking the Sustainability Fire has been generously underwritten by PNC Bank, Church & Dwight Co. Inc., Vertices LLC and The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. The underwriter of the Sustainability Slam is PSEG: Helping to Create Sustainable Communities, a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes.
