Chemistry Department to Host Networking Event for High School, College Students

Rider University’s Chemistry department will host Careers in Chemistry symposium on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the Lawrenceville campus, 2083 Lawrenceville Road.

The free program, open to all high school, undergraduate and graduate students, aims to raise awareness of career opportunities for individuals with degrees in chemistry.

Chemists from various careers and sectors of industry, academia and government in the central New Jersey/Philadelphia area will give panel discussions and presentations about their careers. Speakers and panelists will feature physicians, lawyers, pharmaceutical chemists, flavors and fragrances chemists, science historians, chemistry librarians, science communicators, chefs and chemistry teachers.

Featured professionals will also provide information about internship and other student work opportunities.

“We hope that these professionals will behave as mentors later on, as students prepare to enter the workforce and are deciding what they really want to do, and looking for jobs,” said event coordinator Dr. Danielle Jacobs, assistant professor of Chemistry. “We’re inviting not only Rider students but high school students and other local undergraduate and graduate students.”

The event, sponsored by Rider University and the Princeton and Trenton sections of the American Chemical Society, will be held in the Daly Dining Hall Mercer Room on the Lawrenceville campus. A free lunch and snack break will also be served.

Those interested in attending must pre-register for the event. Please visit http://www.rider.edu/172_16558.htm to register. For more information, please call Dr. Danielle Jacobs at 609-895-5667 or e-mail djacobs@rider.edu.
