APO Showcases Talent to Help 'Save the Music'

Rider University’s Alpha Psi Omega recently held Singin’ to Save the Music!, a talent show, aimed at raising money for furthering music education in local schools. All ticket sales proceeds, which totaled $400, will go toward the VH1 Save the Music Foundation, which donates supplies to underprivileged schools.

The charity event, held March 27 in the BLC Theater on the Lawrenceville campus, featured a variety of talents, including a piano performance, dance performances and original songs written by APO members.

Ali Haugh, an APO member, came up with the idea to hold a charity event to support VH1 Save the Music Foundation. While APO has participated in several benefit events in the past, this was the first time the organization donated proceeds from a performance to a charity.

“Everybody did such a wonderful job,” said Haugh about the performance. “I could not have done it without the support of Alpha Psi Omega.”

APO is a coed theater fraternity open to all majors from Rider University’s Lawrenceville and Westminster campuses. The organization holds fundraising events and charity events throughout the year, as well as two student-directed and student-run shows each semester.

APO will hold Video Killed the Radio Star, a dance concert, on Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4, at 8 p.m. in the Yvonne Theater. The event is a movie-themed performance, where the entire cast will use movement and music to explain themes and storylines of movies.

“We all watch movies, so this show provides everyone with something that they will love and understand,” Haugh said.  “It’s a very fun show to come see, and the directors have gone to great lengths to incorporate amazing creativity and ideas into this show.”
