Colonel Roger E. Carey, an alumnus of Rider University, will receive the Alumni Achievement Award from the University’s Department of Communication and Journalism on Monday, March 30, at 5 p.m.

The award will be presented at the annual Ceremony of Merit, at which students in the department are recognized for exemplary performance in academics and service. Col. Carey will give an address on the importance of pursuing excellence. The event is free and open to the public, and will take place in the Cavalla Room in the Bart Luedeke Center on the Lawrenceville campus, 2083 Lawrenceville Road.

Carey’s active duty military career began in March 1982. For 10 years of his 27-year career, he has been stationed overseas. During his career, he rose from Platoon Leader at Fort Hood, Texas, to Battalion Operations Officer at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., to President’s Communication Officer in the White House, and to his current position as Combatant Command Staff Officer in Stuttgart, Germany.

Col. Carey was born in Cape May Court House, N.J., to Roger and Margaret Carey.

The ceremony will involve the induction of students into Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication honor society, and the bestowing of awards for academic achievement, service, and for excellence in journalism and video production.
