Greek Life Representatives Attend Leadership Conference
|
Students and staff from Rider University’s Greek Life joined hundreds of fraternity and sorority leaders at the Northeast Greek Leadership Association annual meeting in Hartford, Conn., from Thursday, February 19, through Sunday, February 22.
Students participated in the Values Institute on Friday, which took them through a curriculum of topics that included positive relationships, academic achievement, servant leadership and leadership development. The institute was facilitated by a number of University staff members, including Ada Badgley, director of Greek Life at Rider.
“The students who attended the conference have some kind of leadership position, either on the Greek Council or as presidents of their fraternities or sororities. One student is an resident assistant on campus,” Badgley said. “The conference gives them a good opportunity to learn about Greek Life on other campuses. They make connections. Some get to meet brothers and sisters from their organizations.”
Participating students from Rider included Tyree Barnes (Kappa Alpha Psi), a sophomore Actuarial Science major; Kristina Fico (Phi Sigma Sigma), a junior Elementary Education and American Studies major; Danielle Huddleston (Zeta Tau Alpha), a junior Global and Multinational Studies major; John Lanza (Tau Kappa Epsilon), a sophomore History major; Dara Mehler (Alpha Xi Delta), a sophomore American Studies major; and Frank Romano (Sigma Phi Epsilon), a senior Secondary Education and Social Studies dual major.
Greek Life coordinators Megan Horst and Michael Stumpf participated in a day-long workshop with other Northeast Greek professionals on Hazing Prevention on Friday. The students and staff participated in several workshops and presentations on Saturday. Topics included positive public relations, recruitment techniques, finding personal balance in your life and motivating others.
