Rider University to Hold International Financial Reporting Standards Presentation



Rider University’s Center for International Business and the Accounting Department will hold an International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) presentation to focus on the major issues surrounding the most significant change in U.S. accounting and financial reporting. 

The presentation will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, in the Bart Luedeke Center Theater on Rider’s Lawrenceville campus, 2083 Lawrenceville Road. The event is free and open to the public. Two CPE credits for New Jersey and New York CPAs will be offered for those who attend.

The seminar will feature two speakers: Jonathan Marks, CPA, CFE and executive partner at Crowe Horwath LLP; and Scott Christopher, CPA, senior manager at Deloitte & Touche LLP. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Obeua Persons, associate professor of Accounting at Rider

Presentation topics will include:
• Overview of international financial reporting standards
• Acceptability of IFRS worldwide
• Proposed roadmap for the use of IFRS by U.S. issuers
• Implementation issues
• Differences between IFRS and U.S. GAAP
• Internal audit and corporate issues related to IFRS

Marks, a partner in the Risk Services Group in New York, advises engagement teams and clients in the areas of Sarbanes-Oxley, risk governance, internal audit, fraud, technical accounting, and SEC matters. He leads the firm’s antifraud and IFRS initiatives and is a well-known speaker in these areas.

Christopher is a member of the Global IFRS and Offerings Services Group (GIOS). He is experienced in providing consulting services related to IFRS and US GAAP accounting as well as Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting, which includes conversions, application of existing standards or implementation of new standards and advisory services with respect to the preparation of SEC filings. He has experience with large multinational clients and worked for three years in Paris.

Persons has been teaching International Dimensions of Accounting at Rider since 1997.  Her teaching and research interests include international accounting, financial reporting and corporate governance. 

The Center for International Business, located in Rider’s College of Business Administration, provides the essential resources necessary to enable students and business professionals to engage effectively in the global economy through its management of a dynamic international business curriculum, ongoing faculty development programs, and strategic business and community outreach initiatives. Rider’s Accounting Department offers bachelor and master degree programs as well as a certificate and a concentration in Forensic Accounting.
