Rider University to Celebrate Its History with a Splash of Cranberry, Country

Rider University’s Campus Mall in Lawrenceville will mirror the sights, sounds and aromas of a county fair with a cow-milking contest, cranberry barbecued chicken wings and bluegrass music on Thursday, Sept. 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
It’s all part of Cranberry Fest – a Rider University tradition that began in 1979 and celebrates Andrew J. Rider, the founder and first president of the Trenton Business College, which eventually became Rider University. Rider introduced the cranberry to the Queen of England and hence she nicknamed him “The Cranberry King of New Jersey.”
This year’s Cranberry Fest will feature live bluegrass music, balloon artists, magician, carnival games and a delicious cranberry-themed menu.
“It’s the real welcome back ceremony where all the different elements of the University, students, faculty and staff, come together and celebrate what links us all as one,” said Nicholas Barbati, coordinator of Campus Activities.
