Graduate Education, Leadership, and Counseling Programs

Graduate Education

The School of Education’s Department of Graduate Education, Counseling and Leadership considers its mission to be two-fold: first, it functions as an integral and interrelated component of the entire University, and second, it retains its own identity as it strives to provide services unique for its students. The objectives of the Department are:

  • To strengthen and intensify the students’ understanding of themselves so they might deal more effectively with their environment.
  • To broaden and deepen the students’ understanding of the concepts and competencies in their area of specialization so that they might be most effective in that professional area.
  • To confirm, expand, and invigorate the value orientation of the students to enable them to deal effectively with the worked in which they function.
  • To provide a humanistic approach to the development of professionals in the specialized areas served by the Department.
  • To concentrate on the selection and development of emotionally, intellectually, socially, psychologically, and physically well-adjusted candidates for the preparation programs in each specialized area served by the Department.
  • To place appropriate emphasis on both affective and cognitive considerations in the various specialized programs within the Department.
  • To deepen the students’ understanding of professionalism and their commitment to it.
