University of Music and Dramatic Arts (KUG) in Graz, Austria

What’s Study at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts (KUG) About?
Westminster Choir College students pursuing a voice major can complete program requirements abroad at the Universität fúr Musik und Darstellende Kunst (KUG-University of Music and Dramatic Arts). A 3-week intensive German language program at the University of Graz before the semester’s start provides accelerated language acquisition. Students can combine courses in voice with language courses at the Vorstudienlehrgang Language School, and courses in English and German across a wide spectrum of disciplines at the University of Graz.

How much does it cost?
For Rider students, the fee is equal to Rider tuition. It includes tuition and support services from a local Rider University advisor. Students receive a stipend to help defray housing and intensive language course costs. Transportation, meals and incidentals are not included. Rider University students who receive financial aid continue to do so during their study abroad.  Contact Student Financial Services for further information.

Must I speak German to enroll? What about a personal audition for the voice program?
Westminster students must have completed the equivalent of second-year coursework in German language. This may include the three-week intensive language course at the University of Graz prior to the regular semester. Westminster will screen and select students for admission in accordance with both institutions’ standards. Students submit a DVD performance recording with their application.

Where will I live and eat?
Rider students are housed at the OEAD residence halls with other international students.  Students may prepare their own meals and/or eat in university cafeterias and local restaurants.

What support services does Rider provide while I am in Graz?
Rider’s local advisor, Heidrun Moertl, works to help Rider students make a smooth transition into the culture and college environment. She will assist you with any academic or non-academic issues throughout the semester.  At all times, she is in close contact with the Center for International Education.

How do I apply?
Visit the Rider Study Abroad webpage at www.rider.edu/studyabroad for application information and application forms and reference forms.  Application deadlines are March 1st for fall and October 1st for spring.
