Rider University Institute for NJ Politics
The Rider Institute for New Jersey Politics was established to advance the understanding of political institutions, political processes and public policies at all levels of government in New Jersey.
An integral component of the Institute is the participation of Rider students so they can gain ideas and contacts for research projects, internships, service learning opportunities, involvement in community research projects, and overall career development.
Programs include:
- Panel discussions
- Major talks by invited guests
- Research presentations
- Formal and informal debates by political candidates, officeholders, policy and issue advocates
- Professional development workshops for public officials, media people, faculty and staff
Topics of the student workshops and programs include:
- State and local public policy issues and policy making
- Political parties and interest groups
- Government institutions
- Roles of non-profit organizations in issue development and advocacy
- Policy issues of special interest to college students
- Roles of the media in New Jersey politics
- Career development issues for prospective politicians, government officials, or community activists
