November 20, 2006 -- University Band Featured in Holiday Concert




The Rider University Concert Band will combine with the Blawenburg Band, a community band from Central New Jersey, to present a holiday concert on Monday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m. in The Yvonne Theater of the Fine Arts Building on Rider’s Lawrenceville campus.  Admission is free.

Compositions on the program will include “The Star Spangled Banner,” by John Stafford Smith; “First Suite in E-Flat for Band,” by Gustav Host; “Amazing Grace,” arranged by Jay Dawson; “Sandpaper Ballet,” by Leroy Anderson, featuring members of the percussion section; “Victory at Sea: Symphonic Scenario,” by Richard Rodgers and arranged by Robert Russell Bennett; and the “Washington Post March,” by John Philip. Sousa.

The second half of the program will feature “Sleigh Ride” and “A Christmas Festival,” by Leroy Anderson; “First Noel,” arranged by Jeff Simmons; and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane and arranged by James Swearingen.  The program will conclude with “Stars and Stripes Forever,” by John Philip Sousa.
