NOVEMBER 15, 1996- RIDER PROFESSOR HAS BOOK PUBLISHED ON LABOR HISTORY IN NEW JERSEY

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- The New Jersey Historical Commission has published a book written by Dr. Joseph Gowaskie of Rider University which examines the contributions made by New Jersey workers to the state's economy and the nation's industry.

The book, entitled Workers in New Jersey History, is the sixth book published in the commission's New Jersey History Series. Earlier titles covered the military, economic, Indian, immigration, ethnic, and architectural history of the Garden State.

In his book Gowaskie, professor of history and department chairperson, looks at how the work process has changed from the colonial period to the present and the effects of the change from an agricultural to industrial to service economy on the lives of workers. He also describes the entrance of different racial and ethnic groups into the labor market.

Workers in New Jersey History is available in paperback for $9 from the commission.
