LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- Phyllis M. Crowell (left) of Princeton, NJ, has been promoted to the position of Assistant Vice President for Finance and Controller at Rider University.
Crowell will be responsible for the services of the General Accounting, Payroll and Disbursements, Cashiers, and the Bursar's offices. She will also take responsibility for insurance and cash management activities at Rider and serve as the University's primary liaison to financial institutions and external auditors.
"In addition to her significant experience with University budgeting, accounting and financial reporting, Phyllis has shown a real customer service orientation and provided strong leadership to her current staff," said Julie Karns, Vice President for Finance and Treasurer. "I know she will be very successful in her new role, and that she looks forward to continuing to work with the campus community."
A member of the administration at Rider since 1980, Crowell has most recently served as Associate Controller since 1990 after holding both Director and Assistant Director posts in the Payroll and Disbursements office on the Lawrenceville campus. Prior to that, she was the grants administrator and bookkeeper for the National Opera Institute.
Crowell fills the position previously held by George Hess, who retired on September 30, 1996. She holds an M.A. in public affairs and human services administration from Rider, where she also studied business and accounting, and received her B.A. in history from Queens College in Charlotte, NC.
