DECEMBER 16, 1997- MATOS NAMED UNDERGRADUATE OF THE YEAR FOR NATIONAL LATIN FRATERNITY

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- Luis A. Matos (left) of Trenton, NJ, a senior business administration major at Rider University, has been named Undergraduate of the Year by Lambda Theta Phi (LTPHI) Latin Fraternity, Inc., the national organization announced recently.
LTPHI is a non-profit service/social fraternity which emphasizes Latino unity and the celebration of the Latino culture. It is the oldest and largest fraternity of its kind in the United States. With its acceptance into the National Interfraternity Council in 1992, LTPHI became the first nationally recognized Latino Greek letter fraternity in the country.
The fraternity's goals are to promote scholarship, Latino study, respect for all cultures, and brotherhood.
Matos, a graduate of McCorristin Catholic High School, has been very active in campus activities at Rider. He has served as vice president of LTPHI, president of the Minority Greek Council, treasurer of the Latin American Student Organization (LASO), a mentor for the Poyda Freshman Experience Program, and a member of the Rider baseball team.
In addition, he has been a resident advisor for two years in Poyda residence hall, a peer counselor in 1996-97 in the Educational Opportunity Program, and a student assistant this year in the bursar's office at the University.
