NOVEMBER 25, 1997- CELEBRATION OF LIGHTS OBSERVES WORLDWIDE HOLIDAY TRADITIONS

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- A fast-growing holiday tradition, Rider University's annual Celebration of Lights will once again bring together people from all walks of life for a multicultural observance of the holiday season.

Now in its fifth year of providing an opportunity for the community to learn about the unique late-year holidays observed by an array of cultures, the celebration will be held on Thursday, December 4, at 4 p.m. in the Student Center Cavalla Room on Rider's Lawrenceville campus.

Five holiday stations -- Chanukah, Christmas, Diwali, Kwanzaa, and Three Kings Day -- will include students from various campus organizations sharing holiday traditions, food, music, prayers, and stories in a festive display of Rider's diversity. The Posada, a Latin American community holiday tradition, will tie the stations together with a musical procession.

William Guthrie, graduate education, will again begin the ceremony with Native American stories and the ancient method of rubbing sticks together to create the flame which will light Rider's unity candle. This flame will then light several other candles in a celebration centerpiece display that will provide most of the festival lighting.

Rider University's Lawrenceville campus is located five miles south of Princeton and three miles north of Trenton on Route 206 in Lawrence Township, NJ. The campus is one-half mile south of exit 7A of Interstate 95.
