NOVEMBER 20, 1997- RIDER TO INDUCT FOUR INTO ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME ON FEBRUARY 7

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- The Rider University department of athletics will induct four new members to its Hall of Fame on Saturday, February 7, 1998, director of athletics Curt Blake announced.

The seventh class of inductees to Rider's Hall of Fame include basketball player Alberto Baptiste, wrestler Adam Derengowski, baseball player Ken Kremer, and volleyball player Kathy Weiss.

Baptiste, the Rider career scoring leader (1,756 points) from his graduation in 1980 until his record was broken in 1993, still holds the Bronc records for field goals made in a season (247), consecutive games with 20 or more points scored (13), and consecutive games started (107).

Derengowski earned All-America honors as a senior in 1991, finishing third in his 118 pound weight class at the NCAA National Championships. Derengowski compiled 106 wins and three East Coast Conference individual championships in his career, twice being named the ECC's Most Outstanding Performer.

Kremer earned All-America honors as a sophomore and again as a junior, before leaving Rider in 1988 for professional baseball, and returned to get his degree in 1990. Kremer led Rider to the finals of the 1987 NCAA East Regional, the final 16 teams in the National Tournament, and was named the Regional MVP as a sophomore. As a junior, despite playing most of the season with a broken finger, Kremer won the national batting title in Division I.

Weiss was named the Rider athlete of the year as a freshman, breaking every existing Rider volleyball team record. The next season she helped raise the level of play at Rider from Division II to Division I. Weiss was a four-time All-ECC selection.

The Rider wrestling team will host Lehigh at 2:00 pm February 7, and the men's basketball team will host Loyola that evening at 7:30 pm. The Hall of Fame festivities will take place in between the two athletic events. The four inductees this year brings the total of Rider Hall of Fame members to 33 since its inception in 1990.

Rider University's Lawrenceville campus is located five miles south of Princeton and three miles north of Trenton on Route 206 in Lawrence Township, NJ.  The campus is one-half mile south of exit 7A of Interstate 95.
