NOVEMBER 4, 1997- ABC NEWS, NBC NEWS EXECUTIVES TO SPEAK AT RIDER UNIVERSITY




LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- Susan Farkas, senior producer at NBC News, and Martin Phillips, senior producer at ABC News, will lead a discussion at Rider University focused on the important issues facing the media today that shape individual lives and society as a whole.

The presentation, entitled "The Right to Privacy vs. The Right to Know," will be held on Thursday, November 13, 1997 at 3:30 p.m. in the Sweigart Hall Auditorium on Rider's Lawrenceville campus. It is coordinated with the new University Theme Program, and is free and open to the public.

Hot media topics that will be examined include privacy, tabloid journalism, and recent major lawsuits involving the tobacco industry and the Lion food chain. They will also look talk about the paparazzi, specifically their involvement in the recent death of Princess Diana. Both Farkas and Phillips have extensive first-hand experience with these issues, having produced such television news magazines as Dateline, 20/20, and 60 Minutes.

Rider University's Lawrenceville campus is located five miles south of Princeton and three miles north of Trenton on Route 206 in Lawrence Township, NJ. The campus is one-half mile south of exit 7A of Interstate 95.
