OCTOBER 8, 1997- ALUMNI TO REFLECT BACK `THROUGH THE YEARS' AT RIDER HOMECOMING

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- Rider alumni have been invited to celebrate their alma mater at a variety of activities planned for the annual Homecoming Weekend, Friday through Sunday, October 24-26, on the University's Lawrenceville campus.

This year's theme, "Through the Years," is emphasized with several alumni reunions. Among the opening festivities on Friday evening are a dinner for the Classes of 1932, 1937, 1942, and 1947 at the home of President and Mrs. J. Barton Luedeke at 4:30 p.m., and a reunion for the classes of 1992 through 1997 in the Student Center Pub at 10 p.m. A new Homecoming tradition will also begin on Friday when alumni from the Rider men's basketball team square off at 7 p.m. in Alumni Gymnasium.

Saturday's full slate features reunions and athletic events across campus, highlighted by the 11:30 a.m. dedication of the swimming pool in honor of retired swim coach Rich Coppola, and the noon baseball alumni reunion at Daly's honoring Rider's 1967 College World Series team. In addition, members of the Class of 1987 will come together at noon in the Student Center Fireside Lounge for a 10th-year reception, and the Class of 1972 will have a 25th-year reception at 4 p.m. at the President's home.

The day's events will be tied together by the Harvest Ball Dinner Celebration for all alumni from 5 to 10 p.m. in the Student Center Cavalla Room.

The weekend's marquee event, the 50th Anniversary Reunion of Phi Sigma Nu's Washington Crossing the Delaware Reenactment, will serve as the finale on Sunday from 11 to 3 p.m. at the Washington Crossing Inn in Washington Crossing, PA. In February, 1947, Rider students in Phi Sigma Nu first re-enacted George Washington's crossing of the ice-swollen Delaware River, including a tomato-fight version of the Battle of Trenton at the city's Battle Monument. The event was chronicled by Life Magazine, and started a reenactment tradition that is still held annually on Christmas Day.

For more information on Homecoming Weekend or a complete schedule of events, contact Rider's Office of Alumni Relations at (609) 896-5340.

Rider University's Lawrenceville campus is located five miles south of Princeton and three miles north of Trenton on Route 206 in Lawrence Township, NJ. The campus is one-half mile south of exit 7A of Interstate 95.
