LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- Three Rider University sophomores have been selected to attend the National Conference for Women Student Leaders in Washington, D.C. from June 5-7, 1997.
This year's conference, titled "Women Leading: Today and Tomorrow," will examine leadership issues of critical importance to women. It is sponsored by Advancing Women in Higher Education (NAWE) and designed for women students who are currently in leadership roles on college and university campuses across the country.
The students are (with hometown and major):
| Ulrica Freeman Lori Jordan Dominique Prizgint |
Hamilton Township, NJ Old Bridge, NJ Wayside, NJ |
computer information systems/sociology journalism computer information systems/accounting |
The students will have the opportunity to participate in leadership and personal development workshops, network with diverse women leaders, and attend presentations by nationally-recognized speakers. They were selected based on their outstanding contributions to Rider's Orienting Women Leaders (OWL) program, which was initiated at the start of the 1996-97 academic year.
The OWL program, sponsored by a gift from the ARAMARK Corporation of Philadelphia, provides motivation, resources, and support to help women students become leaders at Rider and in their later careers. Specific objectives include connecting students to on- and off-campus student and professional women leaders in areas of student interest, providing workshops on leadership skills, helping students discover opportunities at Rider to promote personal and professional growth, and bringing students together for mutual support.
More than 70 students participated in the first year of programming for OWL. As part of their conference experience, the students will make a presentation next fall to OWL members based on what they saw and learned.
