LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- Dr. Mildred L. Rice Jordan (left) of Newtown, PA, has been invited to serve in a delegation to the People's Republic of China in June as part of the American People Ambassador Program.
The Program is part of People to People International (PTPI), an organization founded in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The goal of PTPI is to advance international understanding and cooperation and to promote professional contacts between Americans and their foreign counterparts through one-on-one contact.
Dr. Jordan, assistant professor of undergraduate education at Rider University, holds B.S. and Ed.D. degrees in education from Temple University and a M.S. in education from Beaver College. She has been a member of the Rider education faculty since 1991, teaching multicultural education courses to future teachers.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to be an ambassador," said Dr. Jordan. "I want to learn more about global education in the 21st century, because kids who will be adults then will have to deal a lot more on an international level. Right now, our country is very interdependent, and we have to instruct future teachers how to teach their students and make them globally aware."
Dr. Jordan also plans to take in the vast history and culture of China in her free time, with visits to the Great Wall of China, the Ming Tombs, and the Temple of Heaven all on her personal itinerary.
Rider University is an independent, co-educational, non-sectarian institution with a 353-acre campus in Lawrenceville, NJ, and a 23-acre campus in Princeton, NJ. The University offers 57 undergraduate programs and 15 graduate programs in business, liberal arts, science, education, and music. Ninety-five percent of Rider's faculty members hold doctorate or other appropriate advanced degrees. U.S. News and World Report has again ranked Rider in the top tier of northern universities based on the quality of its programs.
