APRIL 30, 1997- EBO RECEIVES FULBRIGHT AWARD TO LECTURE, CONDUCT RESEARCH IN GERMANY
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- Dr. Bosah Ebo (left) of Yardley, PA, associate professor of communications at Rider University, has been awarded a Fulbright scholarship to attend the 1997 German Studies Seminar entitled "Communication Sciences and Media in Germany."
Conducted by the Fulbright Commission, the seminar will run from June through early July. The program will begin in Bonn and includes stays in Hamburg, Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden, and Munich.
He will lecture on media diplomacy and foreign policy. He will also study the role of the Internet in international relationships between countries, particularly groups who could subvert some relationships or cause problems.
"This is one of those experience you hope will happen to you," Ebo said. "I think this will complement the courses I teach (International Communication and International Dimensions of an Integrated World)."
His interest in Germany developed when Dr. Frank Rusciano, professor of political science, and he collaborated on a research project that produced a paper, "National Consciousness, International Image and the Construction of Identity: The Case of German Reunification."
He joins several Rider faculty members who have received the prestigious Fulbright awards. Besides Ebo, the others are Drs. Margaret Schleissner, associate professor of German, to Germany (1996), Cengiz Haksever, professor of management sciences, to Turkey (1993), Sigfredo Hernandez, associate professor of marketing, to Panama (1992), and Dr. Belmont Haydel, professor of business policy emeritus, to Jordan (1992) and Uruguay (1989). Dr. Walter Eliason, professor of education emeritus, also had Fulbright grants to Peru (1985) and Costa Rica (1987).
Lynn Livingston, associate professor-librarian, and Marilyn Quinn, assistant professor-librarian, received Fulbright grants, both to Germany, before coming to Rider.
Dr. Ebo, who specializes in teaching international communications and public relations, joined Rider Department of Communication in 1987.
He earned his Ph.D. in mass communications from the University of Iowa and his M.A. degree (communications) and B.S. degree (economics and political science) from the University of Wisconsin.
