MARCH 10, 1997- JOHNSON CHARITABLE TRUSTS SUPPORTS MINORITIES JOURNALISM WORKSHOP

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- The J. Seward Johnson, Sr. Charitable Trusts have given Rider University grants totaling approximately $19,000 in support of the Minorities Journalism Workshop held at Rider every summer. The grants are in tribute to Frank Clark, who passed away in 1995.

Clark, former director of the Mercer County YMCA, founded the Urban Journalism Workshop for Minority Youth (now the Minorities Journalism Workshop) with Hugh M. Boyd.

The Minorities Journalism Workshop, now in its 19th year at Rider, offers high school students a chance to gain first-hand journalism experience, including conducting interviews and polls, writing and editing articles, and producing a newspaper. The workshop has a positive impact on the participants' social development and aspirations, and helps to improve their attitudes toward learning.

This year's Minorities Journalism Workshop will be held June 29 to July 11 on Rider's Lawrenceville campus.

Rider University is a private, non-sectarian, co-educational institution with a 353-acre main campus in Lawrenceville, NJ, and a 23-acre campus in Princeton, NJ.
