LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- Rider University will hold its seventh annual celebration of International Week from Saturday, April 18 through Friday, April 24. This year's theme, "Celebrating Our Future," continues the tradition of offering the community a taste of various global cultures, advancements, and ideas through the diverse backgrounds and experiences of people at Rider University.
"The objective of International Week is to show the Rider community -- and America -- as a part of a larger international community, and to point out connections as they exist or become evident in various fields and areas," said Dr. Peter Aberger, chairperson of Rider's department of foreign languages and literatures. "It is an opportunity to showcase international students on campus, international programs, and the international dimension of many Rider activities."
The traditional International Fair will serve as the official opening event on Monday, April 20. Dr. James Castagnera, associate vice president for academic affairs and associate provost, will read the International Week Proclamation to begin the event, which will feature music, international foods and cultural displays by various Rider international and ethnic organizations, in addition to presentations by students of the American Language Academy housed at Rider. The entire program begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Student Center Fireside Lounge.
Always a centerpiece event during International Week, the annual Oxfam Lecture and Hunger Banquet will be held on Wednesday, April 22, at 4:30 p.m. in the Student Center Cavalla Room. This year's lecture will be presented by Rabbi Daniel Grossman of the Adath Israel Congregation. The banquet is intended to raise awareness of hunger by illustrating world hunger rates.
