LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- There will be a retirement dinner for James M. McRoberts (left), former vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Rider University, on Sunday, November 22 in the Student Center Cavalla Room. He retired on August 31 after 33 years of service to the University.
Cocktails will be at 4 p.m. and dinner at 5 p.m.
The cost of the dinner is $30 per person. People are also invited to make a tax-deductible contribution to the James M. McRoberts Community Service Award Endowment.
A long-time resident of Lawrence Township, McRoberts began his tenure as dean of students in 1965 -- a time when students, faculty, and staff were trying to find a niche on the newly completed campus in Lawrenceville. He was also active in the community as a member of the Lawrence Township Rotary Club for many years and as a member of the New Jersey Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Under McRoberts, who received the additional title of vice president for student affairs in 1988, Rider has developed and maintained high standards in its student affairs program. He led student service initiatives in recent years, including enhanced career services, leadership development programs, and special counseling for incoming students.
Although he has retired, he will continue to be involved with Rider by working on some special projects. He will assist with the PDQ career services/personal development program and an assessment program designed to measure how well the University is meeting its institutional goals.
McRoberts and his wife, Jan, who retired from Rider a year ago, now reside at their home on Lake Hauto outside of Nesquehoning, PA.
Those wishing to attend the retirement dinner should call Ernie Molle at 609-896-5101. Reservations should be made by Friday, November 13.
