March 25, 1999- RIDER APPOINTS NEW ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT / DEAN OF STUDENTS

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- An extensive search for a new associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Rider University has resulted in the appointment of Dr. Anthony Campbell, currently the dean of students at Emory & Henry College in Emory, VA. He will assume his new post in May.

Prior to his seven-year tenure at Emory & Henry where an accrediting team commended his use of assessment to build strong student affairs programs, Dr. Campbell served in a variety of student affairs positions at Hampden-Sydney College, the University of Virginia, St. Mary's College, and the University of Georgia.

"Building on his lifelong experience, Tony intends to continue being accessible and responsive to students and build student affairs programs that complement academic programs," said Dr. Phyllis Frakt, vice president for academic affairs and provost at Rider. "His experience within the student affairs profession -- including experience in career services, service learning, leadership programs, and partnerships between student affairs and academic programs -- is especially relevant to Rider."

Dr. Campbell holds a Ph.D. in counselor education from the University of Virginia, a M.Ed. in counseling and student personnel in higher education from the University of Georgia, and a B.S. in psychology and sociology from James Madison University.

In his letter of application, he called himself a "first generation college student" who benefited from his undergraduate experience at a college similar to Rider -- a college "large enough to offer a diverse program of study, but small enough to develop strong relationships with members of the faculty and the student affairs staff."

Dr. Campbell replaces Jim McRoberts, whose retirement last August ended a distinguished 33-year career at Rider University. Jan Friedman-Krupnick, associate dean of students for campus life and director of residence life, has been serving as acting associate vice president and dean of students.

Rider University is an independent, coeducational, nonsectarian institution with a 353-acre main campus in Lawrenceville, New Jersey and a 23-acre campus in Princeton, New Jersey. The University offers 60 undergraduate programs and 17 graduate programs in the Colleges of Business Administration; Liberal Arts, Education, and Sciences; Continuing Studies; and Westminster Choir College.
