January 25, 1999- AHSANULLAH TAKES RESEARCH LEAVE TO STUDY RECORD STATISTICS

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- Dr. Mohammed Ahsanullah of Upper Holland, PA, professor of management sciences and a record statistics specialist at Rider University, is on paid research leave for the 1999 spring semester to develop a unified theory of record values for analyzing business data.

"The results of the project and the relevant research generated by it will be a significant contribution to model building and forecasting," Dr. Ahsanullah said. "This project will allow me to develop my previous theoretical and applied works in record value problems and related model building.

"Record values and record times have many uses in practical situations especially in business data," he added. "One may want to know the model of the fluctuations of stock prices and use the model to predict records of the price movements. Others may be interested in the prediction of records in production or sale prices."

A member of Rider's business faculty since 1985, Dr. Ahsanullah is the author of two books --Record Statistics (1995) and Introduction to Record Statistics (1988) -- and co-author or editor of several other books.

In addition, he has published more than 160 research papers in prominent professional journals. Among them are refereed articles in the Journal of American Statistical Association, American Statistician, Annals of the Institute of Statistical Mathematics, Journal of Statistical Planning and Inference, Journal of Applied Statistics, Indian Journal of Statistics, Canadian Journal of Statistics, and Journal of American Statistical Association.

He is editor of the Journal of Applied Statistical Science, an elected member of the International Statistical Institute, a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, and a member of the American Statistical Institute and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.

Dr. Ahsanullah previously taught as a visiting professor at Temple University and at the National University of Mexico. He holds a Ph.D. in statistics and operations research from North Carolina State University, a M.Sc. degree in statistics from Calcutta University, and a B.Sc. degree in mathematics from Presidency College of Calcutta.
