October 11 - Campus Community Invited to SRC Ribbon Cutting Ceremony October 19

Students, faculty and staff on both campuses are invited to celebrate the grand opening of the new 55,000 square foot Student Recreation Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon on Wednesday, October 19.

Members of the campus community will also be treated to a buffet luncheon on the mall in front of the SRC.

The ceremony will mark the second opening of a major new building on the Lawrenceville campus this fall.  At the beginning of the academic year, the new residence hall and three-story additions to Ziegler and Hill residence halls on the north side of the mall opened with much fanfare. The new buildings architecturally transform the look of the mall and represent the visible signs of Rider’s renewal.

“This is all about our students,” said Rider President Mordechai Rozanski. “The SRC is a fabulous facility that supports recreation, fitness and wellness as an integral part of our students’ experience. The SRC, the new residence hall, and the improvements we have made in other areas over the last decade on both campuses underscore our commitment to being a student-centered university.  I encourage everyone in our campus community to be part of this historic occasion on October 19.”

The SRC amenities are impressive.

  • The 3,600 square foot fitness center will have a full circuit of 16 Selectorized Life Fitness machines that work the whole body and 21 Life Fitness cardiovascular machines, 11 of which come equipped with LCD televisions and basic cable TV.
  • The center will also have a full rack-and-a-half of dumb bells and free weights, as well as four plasma, 34-inch televisions for viewing.
  • The group exercise room, equipped with its own sound system, will host all facets of group exercises ranging from aerobics to cardio kickboxing. In all, there will be 20 exercise classes per week with certified instructors. Personalized training will also be available.
  • There will be three, multipurpose playing courts for basketball, volleyball and tennis and other intramural activities.
  • The second floor will feature a three-lane, 165 meter jogging track and a 1,100 square foot game room with pool tables, ping pong tables, foosball and its own sound system.
  • A well-equipped meeting room on the second floor will seat from 20-40 people and have PowerPoint and speaker phone capabilities, as well as several data ports.
  • There will also be second floor offices for intramurals, conference service and event planning.

The 9,000 square foot atrium connecting the SRC and Alumni Gymnasium is equally impressive. Its exterior glass fronting and brick work, pitched roofs and cupola echo the residence hall architecture across the mall. The atrium also offers many amenities.

  • There will be a snack and beverage area, bistro and cocktail tables and chairs.
  • Club chairs and couches in another section will provide a gathering place for students and members of the Rider community near a 65-inch plasma television.
  • A mezzanine will lead to the meeting and game rooms.
