Rider University Art Gallery will open this fall with an exhibition by Lambertville resident, John Goodyear, former professor of art and former chairperson at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts.
Goodyear’s exhibition “The Elemental Series” will be on view from September 22nd – October 20th. An artist's reception will be held September 22nd from 5 – 7 p.m. in the Art Gallery located on the top floor of the Bart Luedeke Center on Rider’s Lawrenceville campus. On Thursday, September 29th at 7 p.m., Goodyear will give a public talk in the Sweigart Hall Auditorium. All events are free and open to the public.
Goodyear is known for his work which questions traditional approaches to art-making. “The Elemental Series” focuses on subjects which can be made out of their own materials. As a case in point, he has used such items as pressed and dried cucumbers to re-fashion them into the form of a 3-D cucumber or a large tree installation on the floor made out of leaves and wood chips.
Goodyear’s work has been exhibited in Canada, Germany, Greece, and throughout the United States in such important museums as the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of Art, and the New Jersey State Museum. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday noon to 4 p.m. For further information call (609) 895-5588.
