June 16 - Riggs' $192,270 NIH Grant Could Lead to Less Invasive Cancer Treatment

Dr. James Riggs, professor of biology at Rider University, has received a three-year, $192,270 grant from the National Institutes of Health to support undergraduate student-generated research that over the last ten years has evolved to the point where new findings could lead to less invasive ways to treat cancer.


June 7 - Rider Faculty Member Selected a NJ Print, Paper Fellow
Harry I Naar of Lawrenceville, professor of fine arts and director of the Rider University Art Gallery, has been selected one of six New Jersey Print and Paper Fellows for 2005 at the Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper (RCIPP).

May 13 - Rider University Celebrated its 140th Commencement Today
After a surprise performance of “America the Beautiful” by “American Idol” finalist Anwar Robinson, a Westminster Choir College of Rider University alumnus, the Honorable Anne E. Thompson, Senior U.S.District Judge, and Steven B. Kalafer, a prominent Rider alumnus, businessman, movie producer and sports owner, received  Honorary Doctor of Laws degrees today.

May 13 - Rider Honors Two Faculty Members for Teacher Excellence
Nominated by their colleagues and students,  Dr. Diane Casale-Giannola, assistant of teacher education, and Dr. Elizabeth Haywood-Sullivan,assistant professor of accounting, received the RiderUniversityawards for Distinguished Teaching at the University’s 140th Commencement. 

May 13 - Rider Soldiers Assigned to ‘Mission Nick and Jessica’ in Iraq
Jason Swingle, a freshman in the College of Continuting Studies, and Josh Hammill, a sophomore management major in the College of Business Administration, went on a special mission in Iraq last month.  They are stationed in Tikrit.

May 3 - Rider to Celebrate its 140th Commencement on May 13
More than 1,100 undergraduate and graduate degrees will be conferred at Rider University’s 140th commencement on Friday, May 13.  The procession will begin at 9:30 a.m.

May 3 - Three Graduating Seniors Receive President's Award
Matthew Popilowski, a political science major, and Mary Ann Somaine, a psychology major and multicultural studies minor, are the 2005 President's Award winners on the Lawrenceville campus, while Megan Sheridan, a music education major, is the President's Award winner at Westminster Choir College. President Rozanski announced the recipients at the respective award ceremonies on both campuses.

May 3 - Kalafer, Thompson to Receive Honorary Degrees at Lawrenceville Commencement
Rider University will confer honorary Doctor of Laws degrees on Steven B. Kalafer, a prominent alumnus who is a successful area businessman, a movie producer and sports team owner, and the Honorable Anne E. Thompson, a Senior U.S. District Judge, at its 140th commencement on Friday, May 13.

May 3 - Larmore, Noble to Receive Honorary Degrees at Westminster Commencement
Westminster Choir College will award honorary Doctor of Music degrees to Jennifer Larmore, internationally renowned opera singer and a 1980 Westminster graduate, and Weston Noble, professor of music at Luther College, at its commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 14.

April 27 - Freshman Invited to Prestigious Mathematics Institute Summer Program

Freshman Rob Price has been accepted into the prestigious Park City (Utah) Mathematics Institute (PCMI) three-week summer undergraduate program in mathematical biology.

April 27 - Rider To Host Statewide Gender Studies Colloquium
The Rider University Gender Studies Program will sponsor “Undisciplined: New Jersey Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Colloquium,” on Thursday, April 28. 

April 19 - Celebration of Student Research Program Set for April 22

The phrase "exceptionally high quality" best describes the 40 student research and creative presentations from both campuses that will form the program for Rider University's first Celebration of Student Research and Creativity on Friday, April 22, in the Bart Luedeke Center Theater and lobby area.


April 19 - Two Global and Multinational Studies Majors To Serve at United Nations

This month, undergraduate students Hector Rosa and Daria Georgiyeva will be the first from Rider University selected as young diplomats to participate in the United Nations' Millennium Development Spring Symposium. The three-day event will take place at the United Nations in New York City April 26 -28.

April 19 - Abrahams Receives Nancy Gray Award

Dr. Frank Abrahams, chairperson of music education at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, is this year's recipient of the University's prestigious Nancy Gray Award.


April 12 - "Six Degrees of Separation" Closes Rider Theater Season

The award-winning comedy/drama, Six Degrees of Separation, by John Guare will be performed at Rider University’s Yvonne Theater.  The production, directed by Dr. Patrick Chmel, chairperson of the fine arts department, will feature 18 fine arts department student-actors.   


April 12 - Universally Rider: Theme of University Day
“Universally Rider” is the theme of Rider University’s 11th birthday celebration Thursday, April 14.  Festivities take place 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Cavalla Room of the Bart Luedeke Center Cavalla Room.

April 7 - Tyco EPS President to Speak at Rider

Thomas J. Lynch, president of Tyco Engineered Products & Services of Princeton, a business segment of Tyco International, will speak on ethics and corporate responsibility at Rider University’s Sweigart Hall Auditorium on Friday, April 15 at 11:30 a.m.


March 29 - Woodrow Wilson Fellow Kenneth Yalowitz to Visit Rider University
Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow Kenneth Yalowitz, former U.S. Ambassador to Belarus and Georgia, will visit Rider University the week of March 28 – April 1 during Rider University’s International Week. 

March 24 - Team Blast to Test Rider Students’ Leadership Skills

President Rozanski and Team Blast participants wait to see if a spaghetti bridge survives 10 lbs. of weight.
"Competitive collaboration" will be the name of the game for up to 150 students, faculty and staff who will participate in Team Blast activities the Center for the Development of Leadership Skills (CDLS) will sponsor on Sunday, April 3.

March 14 - Martinson Family Foundation Gives $260,390 Grant to Support Rider’s CONNECT-ED

Rider University has received a $260,390 four-year grant from the Martinson Family Foundation to help sustain the Consortium for New Explorations in Coherent Teacher Education (CONNECT-ED) through 2008.


March 9 Schulke Collection Tops Funding Initiatives
Rider University has been awarded $500,000 in state funding to support three projects – two for its Lawrenceville campus and one for its Westminster Choir College campus in Princeton – through a New Jersey State Legislature initiative from the 2004 fiscal budget.

March 3 - Rider to Offer CIS Minor for Non-Business Majors
A new computer information systems minor for non-business minors has been approved beginning in Fall 2005.

Feb. 25 - Rider, Sanda Officials Sign Communications Program Agreement

President Rozanski and President Yuan signing the agreement.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJRider University and Sanda University have agreed to work on extending their partnership to allow Sanda students to earn a dual Rider-Sanda degree in communication.

Members of both the Rider and Sanda staffs along with Sanda President Ji Yuan and Rider President Mordechai Rozanski met Thursday and Friday (February 24-25) on the Lawrenceville campus to formally sign an agreement to develop this new partnership.


Feb. 16 - Newman Named Dean of College of Business Administration

Larry Newman

Dr. Larry Newman, interim dean of the College of Business Administration, has been named dean of the business college effective March 1, 2005. Newman has been a member of the Rider faculty for more than 20 years, and has also served as a member of the Bucks County Community College Board of Trustees for more than 14 years.

 


Feb. 13 - Works of Two Rider Professors Part of New Jersey State Museum Exhibition

The works of Harry I Naar, professor of fine arts and director of the Rider University Art Gallery, and Dr. Robbie Clipper Sethi, professor of English, will have their work included in the collaborative exhibition, “Vision and Voice: Princeton Artists Alliance in Dialogue with Contemporary New Jersey Poetry,” from February 22 through May 13 at the Galleries of the New Jersey State Museum.


Feb. 7 - Laptop Initiative Open to All Rider Business Students

RiderUniversity’s College of Business Administration (CBA) will incorporate the use of laptop computers throughout its curriculum starting in the 2005 fall semester.


Jan. 31 - Rider Celebrates Black History Month

 “Black History…Everyone’s History,” is the theme of RiderUniversity’s month-long tribute to Black History Month, sponsored by the Center for Multicultural Affairs and Community Service, Black Student Union and other campus groups.  All activities are free and open to the public.


Jan. 20 - Warm Rider Welcome for Sanda Students

Sanda University students

Twenty-three Sanda University students arrived on campus early Wednesday night in the midst of a cold, wet light snow to a warm Rider welcome.  Much planning took place over the past two months to provide the warm welcome, arrange orientation sessions during the days preceding the start of the second semester and help them get acclimated to their new environment. Each Sanda student also has a Rider student mentor.


Jan. 7 - Rider to Co-Host NCAA, MAAC Championship Play in 2006, 2009
Rider University and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) will co-host the first and second rounds of the 2006 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament in 2006 and the men's and women's MAAC Basketball Championships in 2009 at Trenton's Sovereign Bank Arena.

Several Rider students are immersing themselves in experiential service learning opportunities during their winter break.

Jan. 5 - Playing Hockey Has Profound Impact

Angela Treannie, a senior biology major, is a backup goalie on Rider University's men's club ice hockey team. “I absolutely love playing,” said Treannie, a senior biology major at Rider. “It can be difficult balancing my schedule with assignments and lab work, but I feel like I need to play hockey."  Last year she devoted her time to her studies after transferring from Mercer County Community College. 

Jan. 4 - Rider to Welcome First Cohort of Sanda Students
Rider University will welcome its first cohort of 23 undergraduate students and three faculty advisors from Sanda University later this month before the start of the 2005 spring semester.
