Feb. 16 - Newman Named Dean of College of Business Administration

Dr. Larry Newman, interim dean of the College of Business Administration (CBA), has been named dean of the business college effective March 1, Dr. Phyllis Frakt announced to the campus community Wednesday afternoon.

“I am delighted to announce that Larry Newman will be the next dean of the College of Business Administration,” Frakt said. “He has been a superb leader and advocate for the College and will take it to a new level of recognition.  The College will be well served by his leadership, and I look forward to working with him for many years to come.

“I would like to thank the members of the search committee – Ron Cook, Lauren Eder, Jamie O’Hara, Larry Prober and Maury Randall – who participated so conscientiously since early fall. They have been a terrific group of colleagues and have served the College admirably,” Frakt added.

Newman has been a member of the Rider faculty for more than 20 years, and has also served as a member of the Bucks County Community College Board of Trustees for more than 14 years (two years as chair).  He has also been a member of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges Council of Board Chairs, and an active consultant on strategic planning and marketing to higher education institutions and businesses.

At Rider, Newman served as chair of the marketing department from 2001-2004 and as interim dean of the business college since July 1, 2004.  During his service as interim CBA dean, he has led colleagues in the initiation of the Center for the Development of Leadership Skills, the Executive MBA program, and the CBA laptop program.

As an associate professor of marketing, he has taught such graduate courses as marketing management, problems in marketing management, marketing communications, and strategic market planning.  On the undergraduate level, he has taught principles of advertising, marketing research, media strategy and planning, advertising campaigns, principles of marketing and healthcare marketing.

Over the years, he has been active in professional organizations and is highly published in professional journals.

He holds a Ph.D. in business administration from Penn State University, an MBA degree from Drexel University, and a B.S. degree in business administration from Penn State University.
