Rider University’s Center for International Business recently awarded eight international study tour scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Business Administration (CBA).
CBA offers several short-term international business study tour courses each year to provide students with experiential learning opportunities abroad. In January 2009, Rider business students will travel to India with professors Susan Denbo, Hope Corman and Cynthia Newman; or to Ireland with professors Margaret O’Reilly-Allen and Ira Sprotzer.
Courses for both of the January study tours include several weeks of class meetings prior to a 10-to-14 day excursion abroad. After the tour, class sessions will allow students to share their experiences and present their research to other students and faculty. In order to be considered for the competitive award, students were required to submit an application, essay and faculty recommendations, and have a minimum GPA of 3.2.
The following students were awarded scholarships for their participation in the upcoming study tour to India: Rheya Price of Plainsboro, N.J., a junior Marketing and Global Business major; Melissa Renaud of Basking Ridge, N.J., a Master of Business Administration candidate; and Alexandra Samuel of Brodheadsville, Pa., a Master of Business Administration candidate.
The following students were awarded scholarships for their participation in the upcoming study tour to Ireland: Hilary Coulter of Bethel, Conn., a junior Sociology and English double major; Helen Damaroda of Joppa, Md., a junior Marketing major; Erica Gutman of Princeton, N.J., a junior Management major; Tracy Taylor of Trenton, N.J., a junior Business Administration major; and Kevin Van Loan of Roselle Park, N.J., a Finance and Accounting dual major.
The scholarships are made possible in part from the U.S. Government IEPS Business & International Education grant program. Under the management of Dr. Lauren Eder, Director of the Center, the two-year grant supports her project, “Mobilizing Global Competency in Business.”
Through a combination of innovative curricula, experiential learning opportunities, faculty and student workshops and guest speakers, the project aims to prepare globally competent business graduates.
