Rider To Conduct Emergency Drill On Lawrenceville Campus

Rider University will conduct an emergency drill on its Lawrenceville campus at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20. Information will be communicated that day via RiderAlert, campus wide voicemail and e-mail, as well as building marshals on campus.

Emergency vehicles will be on campus that morning and the main gate may be closed for a period of time. The south gate will remain open. During the first hour of the drill, some buildings may be evacuated while other building occupants may be asked to remain in place. In addition, those arriving on campus may be directed to a specific parking location. The drill is being coordinated by Rider’s Department of Public Safety and the President’s Office in collaboration with Lawrence Township Police and Fire Departments, Lawrence Township and Mercer County Offices of Emergency Management, and Trenton Fire Hazmat.

Annual drills are important components of Rider’s emergency response planning and key to the University’s continuing implementation of the recommendations made last fall by Governor Corzine’s Campus Security Task Force. The Task Force was established in spring 2007 to ensure that New Jersey colleges and universities have procedures in place to prevent, respond to, and recover from campus emergencies. Rider’s Director of Public Safety Vickie Weaver served as a member of the Task Force.
