Rider University to Present Euripides' "The Trojan Women"
The Department of Fine Arts at Rider University will present The Trojan Women, the timeless classic by Euripides, for seven performances beginning on Thursday, April 10, at 8 p.m. All performances will be in the Spitz Studio Theater, located inside the Fine Arts Building on the University’s Lawrenceville campus at 2083 Lawrenceville Rd.
Hailed as the most moving and powerful antiwar play of all time, Euripides’ classical tragedy The Trojan Women chronicles the aftermath of war as seen through the eyes of Hecuba, Cassandra, Andromache and Helen of Troy as they grapple with the loss of their families and city. Set against the backdrop of the still-smoldering Trojan ruins, The Trojan Women is as relevant today as ever. Prepare yourself for an evening of insightful and compelling theater.
Rider’s presentation of The Trojan Women is directed by Rebecca Basham, the winner of the Michael Kanin National Playwriting Award, William Morris Award, Jane Chambers National Playwriting Award and the Sundance Award for her stage play, Lot’s Daughters. Basham, who received an M.F.A. in Dramatic Writing from the University of New Orleans in 2001, continues to write and have plays produced throughout the country.
