Rider University Will Break Ground on New West Village Residence Halls

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held for the new West Village residence halls of Rider University on Tuesday, April 15, at 12:30 p.m. on the Lawrenceville campus.

When it is completed in June 2009, West Village will consist of two buildings totaling 48,000 square feet and will have the capacity to house 152 residents. The complex will include a mix of apartments, suites and premium doubles, some with kitchen facilities and each with its own washer and dryer. In addition, the project will provide 121 new parking spaces as part of the new construction.

An environmentally friendly project, the West Village construction has received certification Silver by The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, which provides a suite of standards for environmentally sustainable construction.

President Mordechai Rozanski will be on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony. “Rider is a residentially intensive university, and as our community grows, we want to respond to our students’ desire to live on campus. As a result we are committing our resources to this project,” said Rozanski. “I am eagerly anticipating the opening of these new residence halls, and I am certain that our students will be very excited to make the West Village their new home beginning in fall 2009.”
