Three Students Place in N.J. State Leadership Conference

Three students of the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) chapter at Rider University placed in the N.J. State Leadership Conference on March 1 at Mercer County Community College.

John Tremark placed first in Computer Applications and second in Computer Concepts; Michael Sciortino placed second in Impromptu Speaking and second in Public Speaking; and Natalie Tolle placed second in Human Resource Management and Who’s Who in PBL.

By placing first or second place, Tremark, a sophomore double-majoring in Business Administration and Management & Leadership; Sciortino, a freshman Chemistry major; and Tolle, a junior Marketing and Advertising double-major, will compete and participate in the National Leadership Conference in Atlanta from June 21 to 24.

Tolle, who was previously involved in a chapter at Mercer County Community College, reactivated the chapter at Rider this semester. Currently, there are 25 active members in the chapter at Rider.

As FBLA members, Tolle said students can learn interview and résumé skills and gain knowledge in business. At conferences, members can attend workshops, participate in competitions, hear guest speakers and network.

“All majors can benefit from the chapter’s presence on campus,” Tolle said.

The chapter at Rider meets at 11:30 a.m. every other Wednesday in 110 Sweigart Hall. Elections for new officers will be held April 2.

FBLA-PBL is a nonprofit education association, with four divisions for junior high, middle and intermediate students; high school students; postsecondary students; and business people, alumni, educators and parents.  FBLA-PBL holds statewide and national conferences, and chapters are also involved in community service, including work with the March of Dimes.
