April 23, 2007 - AACSB Reaffirms Accreditation for Rider's Undergraduate, Graduate Business Programs

The Rider University College of Business Administration earned strong national endorsement when it received notice of continued accreditation for its undergraduate and graduate business and accounting programs from AACSB International, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Rider is now the only institution in New Jersey to hold this specialized international accounting accreditation and one of only 11 in the Pennsylvania-New York-New Jersey region.

Overall, only 442 member institutions in the world hold AACSB International accreditation for both undergraduate and graduate programs, of which 167 have additional specialized accreditation for their accounting programs. Fewer than 10 percent of the world’s business schools have achieved business and accounting accreditation from AACSB.

“AACSB accreditation represents an internationally distinguished external validation of the excellence of our business programs,” said Rider President Mordechai Rozanski. Donald Steven, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs added, “This accreditation will help us to continue to attract first rate faculty, further advance our stature with the business community, and create more internship and job opportunities for our students.”

Dr. Larry Newman, dean of the business college, said, “I am particularly happy for our faculty. The college went through a rigorous review process this year, and reaffirmation of AACSB accreditation underscores the high-caliber of our professors and curricula.

“I am pleased that our undergraduate accounting program and Master of Accountancy program have continued to achieve this national and international recognition. Rider has long been known for its high-quality accounting programs; this confirms that we have one of the best accounting programs around,” Dr. Newman added.

AACSB International accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools, worldwide. Institutions that earn accreditation confirm their commitment to quality and continuous improvement through a rigorous and comprehensive peer review.

Rider first gained AACSB accreditation for its undergraduate and graduate business programs in 1993 and for its accounting programs at both levels in 2000.

Major accounting firms across the country routinely hire Rider accounting graduates. The Accounting Department has had expert counsel of an Accounting Advisory Council composed of leaders in the field. The department’s new accounting co-op program offer students semester-long, paid internships at major tax firms during the tax season and the possibility of jobs. Technology has been fully integrated into the curriculum.

The College of Business Administration also allows students the opportunity to specialize in specific areas of business and professional development through its Center for the Development of Leadership Skills, Center for Business Forensics, and Center for Entrepreneurial Studies.

The business college also offers such experiential and skill-building programs as the Small Business Institute, which has teams of graduate or senior business students providing award-winning consulting work to area small businesses; DAARSTOC, which is a unique extracurricular program designed to help students develop critical people-management skills, and Minding Our Business, which has business students mentor Trenton youth to create small businesses.

In addition, all business faculty hold doctoral or appropriate advanced degrees. Undergraduate majors are accounting, actuarial science, advertising, business administration, computer information systems, economics, entrepreneurial studies, finance, global business, human resource management, management and leadership and marketing. The Master of Business Administration, Executive MBA, and Master of Accountancy programs comprise the graduate offerings.
