Degrees: B.A. French and English, Rice University; Ph.D. Comparative  Literature, Stanford University

Dr. Johnston's specialties include 20th-century British, American, and French literature,  Women's Studies, Literary criticism, and war literature. Dr. Johnston teaches regularly in the honors program and the Women's Studies program, as well as in the English department. She has been President of the faculty union (AAUP), and she has been advisor to the student Women's Center. A singer, she enjoys performing 20th-century art songs and a cappella choral music.
