Jaime Stover Schmitt, Ed. D., C.M.A., began studying yoga at age 6 when she went with her mother to a yoga class taught by a student of Krishnamurti. She has been studying and practicing ever since, and has been teaching yoga for almost 30 years. Dr. Schmitt has studied yoga in India at the foothills of the Himalayas under H. H. Sri Swami Rama and Sri Swami Veda, and for the past 6 years has been studying the vinyasa krama system as taught by Sri Srivatsa Ramaswami, direct student of H. H. Sri Krishnamacharya. With a doctoral degree in Dance Movement Education from Temple University and certification in Laban Movement Analysis, Dr. Schmitt has danced and choreographed professionally in New York, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, and has taught yoga, dance, and fitness as a Fellow at Temple University, and as an Assistant Professor at Loyola Marymount University.

Dr. Schmitt's certification in yoga is through the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy, where through continuing education she honed her skills as a yoga therapist under the guidance of Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, Ph.D. Her work in yoga therapy is additionally informed by the various movement, holistic health, and bodywork modalities she has trained in. Her life long inquiry of the question "how does yoga work?" led her to a number of methods for understanding and respectfully facilitating positive change in individuals. She credits Aileen Crow, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Drs. Arny and Amy Mindell, Dr. Janet Adler, and Dr. Rudolph Ballentine as formative influences in shaping her movement-inclusive approach to yoga as a path of Self-understanding and liberation.

As founder and educational director of Spanda®: The Yoga of Movement - a therapeutic and educational program located in the New York metro area - she works with everyone from newborns to octogenarians. From 'Yoga for Singers' at a conservatory, to pre-school yoga movement classes, to 'Yoga and Cancer Treatment Recovery', to yoga classes at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Dr. Schmitt teaches varied applications because she recognizes yoga can be adapted to meets the needs of every individual. Dr. Schmitt is also a faculty member of the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy, and leads workshops at the Integral Yoga Institute of New York, and the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health.

Besides Every Woman's Yoga, Dr. Schmitt's most recent publication is Yoga For Pregnancy, Himalayan Institute Reprint Series, Himalayan Institute Press, 2001. She is a contributor to Yoga International Magazine and A Moving Journal.
