Dance

Rider offers a Fine Arts Degree with a Concentration in Dance or a Minor in Dance.  All Fine Arts majors who concentrate in Dance complete courses in the history of art, dance, music and theatre, introductory courses in dance and music theory, and a series of advanced studio courses in ballet, jazz, modern or Spanish dance.

Rider University has a unique relationship with the Princeton Ballet School, in Princeton, NJ, a studio which has gained a national reputation for excellence in dance training. In 2008, Princeton Ballet School is celebrating its 15-year partnership with Rider University. In 1993, Rider University created its Dance Program with Princeton Ballet School. Under the leadership of Dr. Kim Chandler Vaccaro, the program has rapidly expanded. Studio dance classes are held at Princeton Ballet School and lecture classes and performances are given on the Rider University campus. Rider University students have also done internships with Princeton Ballet School and DANCE POWER, and have danced in The Nutcracker and with ARBW, part of Princeton Ballet School’s pre-professional training program. This summer American Repertory Ballet hosted four interns, allowing Rider University students to see the business-side of dance, and further strengthening the ties between the two organizations. Students at Rider have the opportunity to obtain a quality liberal arts education, while taking dance classes with a conservatory-level faculty at the Ballet School. Rider students perform at PBS, with the American Repertory Ballet in theaters across New Jersey and in the Yvonne Theater on the Lawrenceville campus.  To read the full press release, click here.
